PMG’s REST action keeps getting better
How the updates could impact your upgrade

Most of our customers have taken advantage of the Platform’s robust integration capabilities. Among the most popular of our workflow actions is the REST action, which makes pulling or pushing data from external systems a breeze.

Over the past couple of releases (v21.3 and v21.4), there have been a few updates to our beloved REST action worth noting. You’ll definitely want to read on if you’re thinking about an upgrade soon.

Most of the newer REST features came out in v21.3. First, the action now encodes URL parameters for you. That’s right, pre-encoding is no longer required – hallelujah!

We also added support to send File Variables to an external system. And if you’re performing REST calls against an API using GraphQL, these can now be imported via the Postman option. That’s a huge timesaver from having to configure the data to pass manually.

We’ve also made usability improvements to the REST Builder. There’s a new Response Mapping tab, which combines the old Response and Response Variables tabs into one interface. All the tools for creating and updating workflow objects and variables on the fly are still there, but now we’ve added a Response Formatter tool to make dealing with your workflow objects a more intuitive and faster experience.

Lastly, and perhaps most importantly for anyone in the midst of or planning an upgrade, REST actions newly built in v21.3 or v21.4 are NOT compatible with prior versions of PMG. This is due to all the robust changes our team has been making behind the scenes.

Please make plans appropriately if this may impact you. And reach out to us if you have any questions or need help. REST assured, we’ve got you.
